Full Day Interactive Workshop
When you hire me to do professional development for your team, you are getting a current full-time high school mathematics teacher at a project-based learning school with a Ph.D. in mathematics education who has been providing professional development for over ten years. This means that I am capable of customizing the workshop to your specific needs, whether it is for a small professional learning team, a full mathematics department, or an entire grade level. I can focus on project-based learning (my favorite), learner-centered strategies, dynamic technology tools for teaching mathematics, leveraging resources for teaching, or ways to make the classroom more active.
Exemplars
This slide deck is an example of a two day workshop I did with Open Way Learning, collaboratively designed and led by myself and a colleague. We were working with a group of middle school mathematics teachers who were in the second year of workshops with us (see images above to see different workshops with that group), learning about learner-centered strategies, building a collaborative vision for mathematics in their district, and learning about incorporating project-based learning more. While this is very much an Open Way Learning workshop in branding and design, it does reflect important elements that I am sure to include in every workshop and presentation I give, such as building relationships, generating ideas together, and walking away from the workshop with tangible “go-do’s.”

This slide deck is an example of a full day workshop I did with a group of high school mathematics teachers in a small school in collaboration with Looney Math. We focused on getting students engaged in problem solving, so the workshop provides opportunities to explore manipulatives, technology tools, and real-world applications. I also had teachers doing STEM design challenges, like the Straw Rocket challenge, to be able to design together, laugh together, and see different ways to bring fun and team-building into their math classes.
Co-Designing Projects, Units, and Lessons
When you hire me to do curriculum development with your team, you are getting a current full-time high school mathematics teacher at a project-based learning school with a Ph.D. in mathematics education who has been writing curriculum at various levels for over ten years. This includes writing task-based math resources for a large school district, writing project-based math resources for Defined Learning, and creating projects for the Design & Pitch Challenges as part of a research team. I have also supported teachers in their journeys of building project-based learning units in schools across my state. As this website demonstrates, I have a deep knowledge of mathematics resources, especially those that are project-based or support project-based learning, and I had the privilege of learning even more through my dissertation study where I talked to PBL math teachers from all over the nation.
